The Artist

Kristian Somera is a self-taught filipino artist based in Metro Manila. Kristian channels the complex inner machinations of his mind through storytelling.  He is a nationally published writer, a creative director, and an action painter. It is through his endless pursuit to  convey a wide range of emotions that Kristian developed his affinity for abstract expressionism. His emotional and meditative abstracts are a response to an increasingly mechanized existence. His practice is anchored on spirituality and the exploration of human consciousness. Through his art, Kristian gains a deeper understanding of life.  Through his creative process, he develops new perspectives that lie beyond the structure of language which he hopes would resonate with spectators of his work.

Despite being a newcomer into the art scene, he has sold out multiple collections, and participated in several exhibitions. His works have been featured in publications like Mega Magazine, L'OfficielVanity Fair UK and British Vogue.

He works mostly with watered down acrylic and different media. His influences include: Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, among others. He draws inspiration from nature, and the beauty found in the imperfect.

He believes that amid disorder there can be balance; amid the disarray, there’s beauty.
